Purpose Poor forced vital capacity (FVC) effort has been considered to be the main reason for FVC reduction by the ATS/ERS guideline; however, this has rarely been mentioned in previous studies. The present study aims to determine whether reduced FVC in asthmatic children is correlated to poor FVC effort. Methods A total of 209 asthmatic children within 5-13 years old were included and divided into reduced FVC ("restricted," n = 66) and typical obstruction group ("obstructed," n = 143). Forced expiratory flows before and after bronchodilation were recorded in asthmatic children. The differences in clinical characteristics, spirometric results, FVC effort, and bronchodilator response were compared between two groups. Exhalation time (ET) was divided into effective ET (ETe) and plateau ET (ETp) by the start point of exhalation plateau on the time-volume curve. FVC effort was assessed by ET, ETp, and back extrapolated volume (EV)/FVC (%). Results Asthmatic children in the restricted group had significantly higher slow vital capacity (SVC)/FVC (%), higher EV/FVC (%), shorter ET, shorter ETe, and longer ETp, when compared with those with obstructed. In the obstructed group, ET (r = 0.201, P = 0.016) and ETe (r = 0.496, P 0.05). Conclusion These findings suggested that "poor FVC effort" does not account for the FVC reduction in asthmatic children. Short ET and high SVC/FVC (%) are characteristics of reduced FVC.Objective The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of transcatheter retrograde closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defect (pmVSD) via the femoral artery with an Amplatzer Duct Occluder II (ADO II) in children. Methods The clinical and follow-up data of 102 children who had successfully undergone transcatheter retrograde closure of pmVSD via the femoral artery with Amplatzer Duct Occluder II (ADO II) from February 2012 to June 2019 in our center were retrospectively reviewed. Results In 102 of 103 patients, the defects were successfully closed (99.0%). The average age was 4.03 ± 1.84 years and the mean weight was 17.50 ± 5.58 kg. The mean diameter of the defects was 2.58 ± 0.63 mm. Hundred of the occluders had a waist length of 4 mm. The complete closure rate was 89.2% 24 h after the procedure and 98% at the last follow-up. The follow-up period ranged from 6 to 92 months, with a median of 36 months. One child developed new mild aortic regurgitation (AR), and 9 patients developed new mild tricuspid regurgitation (TR). During follow-up, TR disappeared in 5 patients and decreased in 4 patients, and AR relieved in one patient. One patient developed intermittent complete left bundle branch block 4 days after the procedure and recovered sinus rhythm 2 days later. No serious complications occurred. We present a clinical case of a rare form of prostate cancer in a 71-year-old male who was admitted to ER with acute urinary retention. A huge obstructing prostatic cyst was revealed. After successful trial-without-catheter, the patient underwent transperineal cyst draining and this restored urination. PSAt was increased up to 55 ng/mL. The cystic wall biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma with a Gleason score of 8 (4+4) (Gleason Group IV), and distant metastasis was noticed with PSMA PET/CT. The patient started androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with excellent PSA dynamics in three months. Because of lower urinary tract symptoms, he needed local treatment and underwent radical prostatectomy. A three-month follow-up demonstrated a common post-operative period, mild stress incontinence, and PSAt 0.004 ng/mL. Cystic prostatic carcinoma can manifest as urinary retention and be mistakenly taken for a benign obstructing prostate cyst. The disease is especially dangerous to infants and immunocompromised individuals, for which there is no effective treatment or vaccination. As human-to-human, animal-to-animal and animal-to-human transmission play a role in cryptosporidiosis disease ecology, a holistic 'One Health' approach is required for disease control. Upon infection, the host's innate immune response restricts parasite growth and initiates the adaptive immune response, which is necessary for parasite clearance and recovery. The innate immune response involves a complex communicative interplay between epithelial and specialized innate immune cells. Traditional models have been used to study innate immune responses to C. parvum but cannot fully recapitulate natural host-pathogen interactions. Recent shifts to human and bovine organoid cultures are enabling deeper understanding of host-specific innate immunity response to infection. This review examines recent advances and highlights research gaps in our understanding of the host-specific innate immune response to C. parvum. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the prevalence of DENV infection in the population of Sub-Saharan Africa using DENV infection markers, and to track any changes in its prevalence during the past ten years. It was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, targeting the literature available at MEDLINE/PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane library and Google Scholar. All articles published in English language between January 2010 and June 2020 were screened for eligibility. Random effects model was used to calculate the pooled prevalence of all infection markers. The Inconsistency Index (I 2) was used to assess the level of heterogeneity between studies. Subgroup analysis according to country and time-frame of studies was conducted to provide possible explanations to substantial heterogeneity.
